CARISMA (Community Alliance for Renewal, Inner South Manchester Area). Life-chances for young people in the community. Networking, advocacy, facilitating. Most of all, encouraging local people to get active.

Mothers Against Guns Set up by Lucy Cope after her son Damian was shot and killed in July 2002, Mothers Against Guns calls for people to set up campaign groups in their communities, to see an end to Britain's rising gun culture and lobby the government to introduce stiffer penalties for people convicted of gun-related crimes.



Street Pastors A church response to urban problems, Street Pastors are volunteers from local churches who patrol their local areas seeking to get to know people and listen, care and help. There are currently teams in Manchester, Birmingham, several areas of London, Leicester and Southend, with more being planned.



PeaceWeek An annual event in the inner-south part of Manchester - but spreading - PeaceWeek was begun by Carisma in 2003 and sees many different groups and organisations partnering together in a wide variety of activities. It is a platform for anyone - local people, groups, schools, businesses - to get involved in positive community action on the theme of Peace.

The Peace Alliance An independent voluntary organisation in London headed up by Rev Nims Obunge working to reduce crime and the fear of crime, and promote peace in the community. The Peace Alliance organises the London Week of Peace every September.
